A Basic Foundation for the Ultimate Covenant or New Covenant
The task at hand in writing a basic foundation for the Ultimate Covenant is a task for any interpreter of the Holy Scriptures should not be taken lightly.
It is well to state early in this opening chapter for laying a basic foundation for the Ultimate Covenant is to state that I will be stating both the negative and the positive terms that are written in the Holy Scriptures to give an understanding about the Ultimate Covenant about how we of the modern-day church are breaking and abusing this Ultimate Covenant.
Yes, repeating myself, that the writing of this book and this opening chapter of the Ultimate Covenant is an undertaking which is not to be taken lightly for it is God’s Divine Covenant and His Divine purpose for making this covenant first; with the house of Israel, and the house of Judah Jeremiah 31:31-34. The logic for repeating this thought is that there are many individuals who seek for understanding of God’s Word and God’s New Covenant. Which I strongly believe is to seek for themselves an express understanding and inspiration, and their passion and conviction about the Holy Scriptures runs high.
Therefore, let me add this thought that it can tend to become strongly abusive, especially at the lack of understanding of the Holy Scriptures. In addition, one of the great problems is for every individual is this, when it comes to interpreting the Holy Scriptures is what the church believes and what church doctrine truly is. Therefore, I can only state that this book is only a basic foundation. For this book is just a small understanding or picture of trying to explain God’s Ultimate Covenant.
In the lives of Christians today or the modern-day church we all share in a common belief or understanding that the Holy Scriptures or the Holy Bible. Therefore, it is well to note this thought which truly, truly occupies a unique or special place in each individuals faith, of where that we do not all share a common understanding of the way that unique, or the way that each of us perceive that it is in our own personal means for inspiration and logic of the Holy Scriptures. The reasoning for this kind of statement early in this opening chapter is to relate this point which may sound negative; to many, however, the thought which comes to mind is: Are they hiding possibly the lack of personal understanding of what God has written upon their heart in His New Covenant. There is possibly another way of relating this point of view, are they not allowing God’s Spirit to show unto them the New Covenant within their life. However, let us consider this point of logic or reasoning, that on the other hand what has been stated above in the thought of hiding might also be considered in this way that what they feel and believe is personal and it is for their relationship with God.
Then the question would be with many: What is the biblical view of the Holy Scriptures? Is it scripture or is it theology? Is it your opinion or can you prove it scripturally? These are questions which I have considered personally, beforehand and before, I starting writing this foundation of the New Covenant which I do strongly believe that it is God’s Ultimate Covenant. Let it be understood that there are many, many things to write and state about God’s New Covenant.
The beginning of a Basic foundation
The place in the Holy Scriptures that states the Ultimate Covenant or the New Covenant is the manifestation of the prophecy of God’s law written within the heart Jeremiah 31:33. God’s Holy Covenant that is the Ultimate Covenant of God is recorded in the book of Jeremiah 31:31-34 and in the book of Ezekiel 36:25-27. These two prophets write the prophetic passages of prophecy in the Holy Scriptures that truly presents a broad contrast of God’s first covenant with the House of Israel and the Ultimate Covenant. Therefore, I do believe that God was stating that this New Covenant would be with a new spiritual condition that would be written within the heart and that it would come to pass on the Day of Pentecost Acts 2. In addition, you will find the fulfillment of the prophet prophetic word of prophecy written by the prophet Joel and that it has come to pass regarding God’s Spirit would be poured out on all flesh, Joel 2:28 and Acts 2:16-17.
Again, these prophets Jeremiah and Ezekiel brings the prophetic revelation of the Ultimate Covenant and its provisions God that has been stated, for the House of Israel and the House of Judah as well the prophet Joel that prophesies that God Spirit will be poured out on all flesh Joel 2:28 as well as the ministry of God’s Spirit. In the books that I have written where that I state that most of them in one form or another have been about what is spiritual in the Ultimate Covenant. Therefore, by referring in this in like manner in this book which is about what is spiritual, and God’s spiritual knowledge that He will write within the heart. In this modern day and age, we are taught much about knowledge and what knowledge will get you and why education is so important if you want to have anything in life. Yes, I do strongly believe in education and that it is vital today, however, I also strongly believe that there is a lack of spiritual education today. Therefore, because of this lack the words of the apostle Paul keep coming to mind in this thought that the lack of spiritual education will bring about the great apostasy recorded in 2 Thessalonians 2:1-12.
From the day that God told Moses at the burning bush to go to Egypt and bring His people out of the land of bondage and bring them to Mount Sinai where God would establish His first covenant with Israel and with that first covenant God would establish His law with Israel. Today you can find and read many different concepts about the Word of God and its interpretation. Concepts about a new heaven and a new earth Revelation 21:1-2. In addition, you can read many books about spiritual warfare as well as in the Holy Scriptures about this spiritual combat or battle going on within the saints of the church. Furthermore, there are many commentaries that have been written on the Holy Scriptures to help you gain knowledge, wisdom, and understanding.
During the writing of this book it will be addressed many times the key importance of God’s law, God’s Spirit, God’s voice of instruction relating to Israel, the church, and these last days before the return of Christ. The Spirit of God or the voice of God has addressed many questions within me regarding Israel, the church and the prophecy for the church in these last days, and about His Ultimate Covenant that we are living in. For example, why does the Body of Christ or the modern-day church say grace and grace alone? Yes, to answer this question and to be quite honest there are many various opinions and doctrines in what each local church believes about grace.
From my own personal studies and research, I have found that to most of the mainline churches the meaning of grace is understood as the covenant of grace. Both the Old Testament and the New Testament offers vital insight about God’s Spirit or God’s Ultimate Covenant being put first into the House of Israel and the House of Judah, Ezekiel 36:27. In addition, when God would pour out His Spirit and when Jesus indurated the New Covenant or Ultimate Covenant Joel 2:28.
Moreover, you will find throughout the Holy Scriptures God’s “I will” for I would say that it would be well for every Christian to take note of God’s “I will” for it plays an important role in all God say He will do and all that He will not do. For the first outstanding thing I find in the New Covenant if the book of Jeremiah is where you will find these key phrases stated, “I will” or “I will make” “I will put” are without a doubt states what God will do. There is no doubt that God was going to give a New Covenant and a new understanding or a new revelation of His law in the heart of Israel and Judah.
No doubt in this prophecy of God’s New Covenant alone, is one of the vital reasons of why that Satan does not want Israel or Christians to understand the New Covenant and that God will write it within their heart. However, there is yet a much, much greater factor, to be considered which is this of why that Satan does not want Israel or Christians to have this kind of an intimate relationship in experiencing God in His New Covenant. Which is for this reason, if it is God’s Spirit is ministering to us fully within us there is no way Satan can get into the heart of any individual Christian.
When we today truly experience God and His Ultimate Covenant firsthand individually and within the Body of Christ today. Yes, it is well to state that we are truly increasing our relationship with God in this reality that we are drawing nearer to the full provision of God’s Ultimate Covenant within our daily life. Therefore, the purpose of God’s Ultimate Covenant is to provide a deeper relationship with Him, now and in the days to come.
Laying the foundation of Old and New
In the Old Covenant, we need to go back to the book of Exodus 19 and the first covenant made between God and Israel. As with all covenants in the Holy Scriptures where it is well to note, that the initiative was taken by God. The nature of the Old Covenant set forth a clear light that it was a covenant of law and by it Israel enjoyed many privileges under it. In fact, we the modern-day church should take into account the manifestations of the New Covenant given that we are standing under the Old Covenant manifested by God to bring to us His grace in the New Covenant today. Therefore, keeping in view the scope and aspects of the Mosaic covenant that on the inside of that covenant shows the side of grace and on the other side was the law, therefore, it is vital to consider the relationship with these two covenants old and new.
Remember there are key elements in both of these covenants, even that there is a resemblance between both covenants that reveals God’s grace and love for His creation. The first resemblances is that God requires people to be holy that it should appear with the outward distinction. However, we need to further take into consideration the requirement to be holy then this therefore, is the question: Is the church today living that requirement in the New Covenant? Even as Israel was under the law and the requirements of the law and the church today is to be living under the New Covenant I therefore, stress this point because of what our Lord states in Matthew 5:48 about Divine requirements or Divine standards for life: “Therefore, you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.” (Matthew 5:48 NKJV) The logic is when you understand the word perfect you will have full grasp as well as a full understanding of what our Lord was stating and why He was stating it.
In the Vine’s Complete Expository Dictionary states “Teleos signifies “having reached its end” (telos) “finished, complete, perfect.” If we are to consider just the human person of physical development, then it would be a common thought that with just the ethical they are “are fully grown or mature” consider these scriptural references (1 Corinthians 2:6; 14:20). While other translations of the Holy Scriptures, translate it as complete the Greek word “Teleios” as perfect.
When comparing the Old and New Covenant there is one book in the four gospels that I believe that it especially embodied both the Old Covenant and the New Covenant is in the gospel of Matthew chapters 5 through 7. These chapters are the teachings of Jesus regarding the laws of His Father or God’s commandments that is relevancy for today, and remember Jesus is speaking as one under the law or under the Mosaic law. For the New Covenant had not yet been inaugurated.
While most Christian readers of the Holy Scriptures may not see much difference, I cannot over emphasize the importance for understanding Jesus teaching the Mosaic laws with the coming of the New Covenant. Therefore, we must also understand that the Old Covenant law was the pillar of laws of the coming New Covenant which the Body of Christ is built upon. For according to the Holy Word if we build upon any other foundation, we are building upon a false foundation 1 Corinthians 3.
The reasoning and logic is to state unto you that some years back I had a vision of the New Jerusalem coming down and in that vision I responded to the Lord that I was not ready yet for I felt that I had more ministry to do and the vision turn to ashes. Then after my response the Spirit of the Lord came and ask what is the interpretation of your vision? Even to this very day the thought that keeps coming back to my mind is that if you do not accept the kingdom of heaven in your life or mine then it will be as nothing and it will be like the salt that has lost its savor and is good for nothing Matthew 5:13. In addition, it is like the parable which states that it is like a man who builds his house on the sand and when the storm comes the foundation is wash away Luke 6:47-49.
Again, I personal believe that a complete understanding of the Old Covenant is vital for understanding the New Covenant and is curial for Christian living. It is my hope and prayer that this book will be instrumental in turning every Christian in a rightful perspective of God’s New Covenant. Maybe if we get back to the true and rightful meaning that the law of God that now indwells within us. Even yet today living in the New Covenant it is a most frustrating aspect of Christian living is determining what God requires of us.
My call and conversion I believe that it was much like Paul’s on the road to Damascus, however, mine was on a back-country road in West Virginia when the Lord God called me in 1953. It was at this point in my life that brought a zeal to find the truth and truth of what is spiritual. Now these many years later I have a tremendous energy and a new desire to learn fully God’s laws, commandments, and covenants and especially about the New Covenant. This desire grows with each and every passing day it is like a fire that cannot be put out.
Mixing the Old with the New!
During my years of ministry, I have found that the great source of confusion among scholars and theologians and Christians is over what are the old law or commandments verses the New Covenant? While examining both covenants even though there are some that profess that the gospels of the New Testament elements the Old Testament. Their logic is this that the law of the Old Testament has been wholly eliminated because of Jesus obedience of fulfilling the law, I therefore, find it hard to completely agree because of the many things that the Lord proclaims and teaches regarding His Father’s law and in His parables about the kingdom of heaven in the gospel of Matthew chapters five through seven.
Furthermore, if the New Covenant abolished the law then why does the apostles write so much about being obedient unto the Word of God and the gospel of Christ? I further believe that God did not change the nature between the Old Testament and the New Testament; God did not change from being a God of wrath, or a watchful God or a merciful God. To be sure that there are those sub-Christian understanding of the nature of God and God’s will in the Old Testament and these are the ones who do not correctly interpret what God’s covenants represents.
I firmly believe that to build a true and just foundation about Israel, the church, and the last days it need to start at Genesis 1:26 “Let us make man in our image, and after our likeness” (Genesis 1:26 KJV) In regards to the Old Covenant with Israel it begins in Exodus 19 through 24 this covenant was established at Mount Sinai between God and Israel. One of the key elements in both Old Covenant and New Covenant is relationship this first covenant is clear about relationship “You shall be my people, and I shall be your God” it is in that statement that God makes it clear about relationship, His relationship with His people. At that moment when Israel received the blessing from God, however, God in return expected them to worship Him and serve Him and Him only. For God made that very clear in the first commandment when God stated that thou shalt not have any other god before Him, Exodus 20:2.
Again, if we look at the first commandment God wrote and gave to Moses then we will find that God makes it very clear that it is Him and Him only: “Thou shalt have no other gods before me” (Exodus 20:3 KJV) In the New Testament our Lord states “He that loveth father and mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.” (Matthew 10:37 KJV) One could interpret that these two texts of scriptures in this manner one God and one Lord. Therefore, we are to put God and Christ first above all things. I state both of these texts of scriptures to make this point of reasoning for both scriptures state a condition both old and new. In addition, the condition that both texts, make it clear in this interpretation that is our spiritual condition and spiritual attitude that we have toward God and Christ in our relationship with them.
In Exodus 19 we read where God gave Moses instructions of what Israel was to do before they He came and spoke to them for they were to sanctify themselves today, and to tomorrow, let them wash their clothes Exodus 19:10. The main reasoning that I can interpret is that God was instructing Israel first that there had to be a cleansing to prepare for Him to come before them. In like manner our Lord taught that there had to be a cleansing to prepare for the kingdom of heaven. In this preparation for the approach of God I believe falls in this term they could only hear God with a pure heart. Even yet today in the New Covenant relationship we must seek Christ and God the Father with a pure heart.
Regarding cleansing let us explore from the book of Romans 6 where Paul writes about baptism that brings the spiritual condition and frees us from the spiritual bondage as Israel was freed from their bondage in Egypt. Israel during their days of sanctification was mainly of washing of their clothes, and themselves, however, in itself symbolizes purity and therefore attends to having a mental preparation to receive God. If I may be so bold as to say that the unholy will not be accepted by God or tolerated by God therefore, as Israel we have to make ourselves holy which is a requirement by our Lord for, He said be holy for My Father is holy. Paul writes in the book of Hebrews without holiness no man can see the Lord Hebrews 12:14.
Even as God spoke to Moses and told him to set bounds to the mountain that people of Israel could only stay in those boundaries and it was to be enforced that if a man or even a beast should touch it, they were to be put to death. The point that I feel needs to be expressed is this, that even by walking in the New Covenant we are walking by the power of God’s Spirit. And though we may full confidence in approaching God as a Father, we in turn must not forget the infinite distance which still exists between Him and us if we are not walking in the New Covenant. Our worship and service are to be done with all reverence and godly fear Hebrews 12:28.
Going back to the descent of God Almighty on Mount Sinai according to Exodus 19:16-19 what it described here, was thunder and lighting and a voice of a trumpet exceedingly loud as well as smoke and fire and the mountain quacking. When we study the New Testament, and especially in the book of Revelation, we find all of these symbols are given to relate His Divine power and presence of God still with us now and in the days to come. In Israel experience that they had with God that day at Sinai in the Old Testament can best be interpreted that it was God’s election for Israel truly witness God as the true God and the Almighty God. Israel is now given the covenant and out of all they witness of God’s Divine power and the words of that covenant leads to their future and future events. Now I have spoken of the preparation for receiving the covenant and after receiving that covenant and the events it holds for their future we must include the foreshadow of what is to come for Israel, the church, and the last days according to Bible prophecy.
Genesis 17 Abram
Now this chapter in the book of Genesis holds the information of God’s covenant with Abram and when the Lord God appeared unto him to make and renew His covenant with Abraham. It is in this covenant that Abram name is change to Abraham. One of the things I find very interesting is what God requires Abram to do and that is “walk before me, and be thou perfect” Genesis 17:1. A condition I believe God is telling Abram to follow Him with all holiness as well as trust Him in His word. Yet I can also understand that many will say there is no way anyone can be perfect in their life. Yet in the New Testament and the teaching of our Lord and does not the Lord make the same condition for us to walk Matthew 5:48.
Again, here our Lord sets a Divine standard that His Father gave to Abram to walk before Him and now Christ is given unto us in the Body of Christ the same standard. I firmly believe that if mankind and the Body of Christ trust God’s grace to believe that they can walk before the Lord and be perfect they have not let the Spirit of God into their life. Adding this thought if mankind does not allow God’s grace and His New covenant to conquer our unbelief and sins then we have cancelled or destroy God’s grace and His New Covenant.
Nevertheless, again I firmly believe that the New Covenant is just one part of His Divine plan to give Israel, the church, and the last days the spiritual wisdom and knowledge to walk before Him perfectly. For our God and Father in heaven in the covenant with Abraham and Abraham seed design His plan for all generation and that we walk in the declaration of Abraham’s faith. It also in this covenant with Abraham that is sealed with blood and this was done by circumcision that it was established. Paul writes about this circumcision and Paul now reveals the circumcision of the heart which could be translated as the law of the heart.
The Covenant with David 2 Samuel 7:8-17
The covenant with David is an everlasting covenant; and in addition, it is the Messianic prophetic word that announces that of an eternal kingdom, the revelation of God’s blessing to fall upon Israel, the church, and the last days. One of the issues that I find interesting is about this covenant made with David. We read that it is David desire to build a house for God and yet God told David that He did not David to build His house because of all the blood on David’s hands. Out of this everlasting covenant God brings forth the prophetic word that out of the seed of David a house would be built for God and that this house would endure forever. We find that Paul write to Timothy and relates how that “one ought to act in the household of God, which is the church of the living God” 1 Timothy 3:15. Therefore, let it be known according to the apostle Paul that the church is the household of God the living God who said I will put My Spirit in Them.
Let us review this covenant again where that God said that out of David seed will come a seed of righteousness which is the Lord Jesus Christ. Secondly out of this seed will it be established an eternal kingdom and he will bring judgment 2 Samuel 7:13. Moreover, in this covenant Nathan gives the prophetic word of spiritual adoption of the Gentiles becoming heirs 2 Samuel 7:14. David also lets it be known that the sovereignty of God and that He is over the House of Israel and His servant David. David goes on to say that let the House of David be blessed by God forever.
The New Covenant Jeremiah 31:31-34
This is a prophecy that stands out from all other prophecy by the prophetic wording and character, which binds the Old Covenant and the New Covenant together for Israel, the church and the last days. Before we begin it would be well to let it be understood that this prophecy is God’s Ultimate Covenant and blessing upon the House of Israel, and the House of Judah, then the church, in the last days that God gives this New Covenant. I do not know what others writers feel or believe about the New Covenant here in the book of Jeremiah, I believe it was the turning point that leads to the conversion and return of Israel back to God.
I further believe that for the most part many Christians do not know the individual responsibility or the destruction that comes by not walking in the New Covenant. Truly the New Covenant prophesies by Jeremiah is full of revelation of God’s Divine intervention of His law and Divine justice that God will write within the heart. Here in the book of Jeremiah is the first mention or indication that God was going to make or grant and make a New Covenant. In addition, this is also the first clear indication of the coming of the Messianic gospel and we better understand that under the teaching of Christ and His apostles the full meaning of the New Covenant. One might also interpret this prophetic word of Jeremiah as a landmark of how Christians are to live in the last days which is in the New Covenant. The New Covenant constitute further and greater blessing yet to unfold in the Body of Christ today.
In the granting of the New Covenant there are things to consider, the first is an eternal truth, and the knowledge of truth that progress in Israel, the church, and the last days. In addition, it is a progressive revelation of the Holy Scriptures written in the pages of the Old Covenant and in the New Covenant which now is written within the heart of mankind. It will be out of the New Covenant that will spread the spiritual knowledge of God’s law which will be personal to each and every Christian.
The coming of the New Covenant is from this resulting factor that the first covenant with Israel was repeatedly broken by their transgression. God states that even through their transgression He was a husband unto them. There is one issue that in today’s modern church I have to say: That many scholars and Theologians state that the old covenant failed and that is why God had to make a new one. Well to be very honest I am reluctant to say or state that God’s covenant failed with Israel because of disobedience to the law of God. Yes, I believe that it brought displeasure to God that His covenant was broken and therefore, and I further believe that this is why God had to designed a New Covenant that He would personally intervene in it by His Spirit.
Then we must also consider the means by which this New Covenant was accomplished. We must be careful consideration look at the character of God’s purpose in this New Covenant. Every Christian life ought to be filled with a full knowledge as well as a revelation of where this covenant is applied. God states “I will put my law in their inward parts” Jeremiah 31:33 KJV, where the law would be written within the heart of mankind by the hand of God.
From the day of God’s first covenant with Israel at Mount Sinai to the Day of Pentecost in which on the Day of Pentecost is where that I believe truly began the new law; and the new life, for living in God’s New Covenant when God poured out His Spirit upon all flesh Joel 2:28, Acts 2:16. Again, remembering that there is another prophet and his prophetic word which did prophecies unto Israel of what would happen or take place on this Day of Pentecost and that is the prophet Joel. Joel’s word of prophecy was that God would pour out His Spirit upon all flesh Joel 2:28.
The New Covenant Ezekiel 36:25-27
As we compare these two prophets’ prophetic word and the contrast between the two and how it relates to Israel, and to the modern-day church that is living in the last days. We find that in both prophecy we must consider what God will do. Ezekiel in this prophetic word begins with the sprinkling of clean water or pure water upon Israel which could be interpreted as cleansing or one might interpret it as baptism. Then Ezekiel states that God will renew their hearts by taking away the heart of stone and giving them a heart of flesh. Another way of translating it God will make each individual new.
The God makes it clear that He will put His Spirit in them and cause them to walk in His judgment and statutes and do them Ezekiel 36:27. Both prophets bring out the reality that God’s Spirit will be dwelling in them. In Jeremiah the prophet tells that judgment and statutes and do them. Both accounts of the New Covenant that gives the context of Israel restoration, however, a complete restoration will not take place until the Second Coming of our Lord. Restoration is one of the R’s of the New Covenant which I will write further on the R’s of the New Covenant.
Later, in this book I will write about Paul’s writing to the Hebrew people in Hebrews 8 through 10. I will also write about the Mediator of the New Covenant as well as of what Paul says is a better covenant.
Where did it all begin to bring Israel, the church, and the last to the New Covenant!
In this opening chapter we will be looking at just the basic scriptures that the Spirit of God has directed me on how to interpret this basic foundation for understanding God’s New Covenant or God’s Ultimate Covenant. The Spirit of God revealed that for anyone to understand God’s New Covenant they must first consider My judgments, My statutes, My commands, My commandments, and finally My Word in its perpetual statutes for Israel, the church, and the last days. In addition, you are writing My Holy Word and about how I have made provision by My prophets in the Old Covenant through to My Son and His apostles for the church to have knowledge of My New Covenant. Furthermore, the Spirit of God said unto me that you are in addition writing about God’s relationship that begun with Israel, then the church, that are living in the last days, and for all of my prophetic word that has written within the heart by God’s New Covenant.
Secondly, the Spirit of God directed me to move also in this direction while I write about God’s New Covenant that I am to address His purpose, His condition, and His provision in His New Covenant. Thirdly, the Spirit of God said you are writing to the modern day church Christians and non-Christians and to them who claim to be Christians and are not Revelation 2:9. From the day that God made His first covenant with Israel at Mount Sinai God has raised up prophets to proclaim His prophetic message to Israel, now the church, and these last days. Depending which prophet you are reading about in the Holy Scriptures you will find that God sent warning to kings as well as His chosen people and these prophets are still bringing forth that prophetic word through some apostles, prophets, evangelist, pastor and teachers Ephesians 4:11. One might also interpret that they were actually acting as lawyers by stating God’s judgment, commands, laws and statutes to Israel, kings, and to His creation today.
Now God has established some covenants that in the modern-day Body of Christ you do not hear much about however they are a vital part of laying the foundation for the New Covenant. You will find in the book of Numbers and the book of Leviticus which is called the salt covenant. “All the offerings of holy gifts, which the sons of Israel offer to the Lord, I have given you and your sons and daughters with you, as a perpetual allotment. It is an everlasting covenant of salt before the Lord to you and your descendants with you.” (Numbers 18:19 NASB) Now when we compare the prophetic word written in the book of Leviticus and how it is stated: “Every grain offering of yours, moreover, you shall season with salt, so that the salt of the covenant of your God shall not be lacking from your grain offering; with all your offering you shall offer salt.” (Leviticus 2:13 NASB)
Many will say what does this one covenant have to do with the New Covenant in the New Testament for this covenant was done away with, with the coming of the Lord. However, if this is an everlasting covenant, I ask how can it be done away with? If God said that it was an everlasting covenant before the Lord again, then I would ask how can it be done away with? Now the Spirit of God brought this revelation unto me and I am sure others that salt is a seasoning as well as a preserving substance.
Therefore, the Spirit of God said I have sent that preserving salt to you in My Son and My Son proclaimed unto His disciples these words “ye are the salt of the earth” Matthew 5:13. Now if Jesus called His disciples the salt of the earth and then commission them to go into all nations and make disciples then Jesus made them one of the preserving elements for preserving His Father’s Word. The point of reasoning is that the covenant of salt had a standard to follow and that it was not to be lacking in offering unto the Lord which is holy then the apostle Paul write we are to make are bodies a holy and living sacrifice in Romans 12:1.
According to the prophet Jeremiah and the apostle Paul that God’s New Covenant is the law of God written within the heart or in the minds of God’s people. It only seems reasonable to believe that God’s reasoning of putting His law within the heart is for living daily in what God’s intended purpose for His creation. In addition, I further believe that there lies a tragic consequence in this fact; if you as a Christian believe the laws of God has been abolished under the New Covenant and you are not pursuing God’s laws then why did, God’s Son clearly state: “For verily I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot or tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.” (Matthew 5:18 KJV)
What are the provisions of the New Covenant?
Most Christians know and understand that the New Covenant as grace and that it is unconditional and that it was prophecy in the book of Jeremiah and in the book of Ezekiel. This point will probably be stated again that God said that the New Covenant would be made with the House of Israel and the House of Judah in Jeremiah 31:31-34. However, Paul writes about the Gentiles are grafted into this blessing of the New Covenant in Romans 11:17. However, this does not change the fact that God has made His provisions in the New Covenant for His chosen people and to my belief the church has not replaced Israel in God’s eyes.
Now if we consider closely what has been written by three prophets in the Old Testament, we will be able to find all of the predicted word of God’s provision for Israel, the church, and for these last days. Therefore, the basic provisions and conditions of the New Covenant begin with Israel and follows through to the Day of Pentecost in the book of Acts 2. There are many scholars and theologians have stated that this New Covenant is unconditional and they will in their own way state the unconditional blessing, requirements, as well as the promises relating to this phrase “I will” in God’s provisions.
God’s New Covenant is our perfect provision and those who walk in the New Covenant will be enlarged with the light of God with both knowledge of God’s relationship in a growing relationship with what God will provide. Perhaps you will discover some of the Lord God’s characteristics you have not yet experienced, in addition, the numerous natures of God’s provisions. Therefore, all who want enlargement of God’s will, in the New Covenant must first seek God and a relationship with Him.
Most of us Christians today do not have much difficultly with a personal understanding of grace or the theology of grace or the conflict on the issue law verses grace. However, then consider this thought that we have considerable difficultly with understanding the law of the New Covenant. The reason is within this problem that it is for what most would say and view within the world view and not the Holy Scriptures view or to be more direct God’s view. Nevertheless, the real problem or difficulty is that we try to bring in the world system into the New Covenant and we therefore create a major problem.
The issue that must be addressed is in the spiritual battles, of the where, why, and how the spiritual battles or conflicts are taking place. To state it another way is Christian cultural verses worldly cultural and the satanic activity within that battle. There is one true fact that “Christian people may not live what they profess, however, they will live what they believe is right” regarding the scriptures and the New Covenant. The real truth of the matter is the world cannot view or understand God’s New Covenant or its spiritual function or its relationship with God’s New Covenant.
To be completely honest, the worldview is part of Satan’s tactics or strategies to act on the error of truth. I state this because Satan does not want you or me to feel or think God’s love and God’s will is always best for us. Furthermore, God does not bring wrath, judgment, on those who walk in His New Covenant. However, God does bring discipline, judgment, and wrath on them who rebell’s against the New Covenant. Your confidence in the New Covenant is crucial for this is God’s influence for life now and life eternal.
During my years of ministry, I have always viewed my understanding of the gospel as the good news to demonstrate my understanding of the New Testament. However, with all honesty My Lord God has given unto me a new understanding about the gospel or the good news which is the New Covenant ingurgitated, and the role it plays with people in the Body of Christ. Moreover, the act of ministry is in those who will see the controlling force of the New Covenant as a pillar of God’s fire which led Israel out of the hand of the Egyptians Army Exodus 14:19.
Nevertheless, Satan’s attacks will continue upon the Body of Christ and therefore those members of the Body of Christ, needs to put on the whole armor of God Ephesians 6:16. God can only move or response to those who are obedient to His will and His New Covenant. What I am stating is God cannot move into the battle within our lives until we allow God to prevail and exercise His New Covenant. There are two factors I know for sure when one receives the New Covenant it is through their conversion and they became a new creature in God New Covenant.
One of the Old Testament models is with the prophet Elijah and the challenge he faced with the prophets of Ball. Furthermore, when considering what took place with Elijah and the prophets of Baal. Therefore, let me say that it is the primary tactic of Baal’s prophets and that they were going through the ceremonial antics with no sign of an answer from Baal. What are the key factors in Elijah encounter with the prophets of Baal which would represent the spiritual fire of the New Covenant and experiencing God’s New Covenant? Well for me it was when Elijah called upon God to send down the fire.
In 1 Kings 18:36-39 is where the prophet Elijah calls upon God to reveal His Divine power to demonstrate His power to show that He is God. Many would ask what does the Old Testament prophetic word of the prophet Elijah has to do with the New Covenant and the conflicts of spiritual warfare. Well to be precise the prophets of Baal are the demonic or fallen angels masquerading as prophets, to bring Israel under bondage by not keeping the laws and covenants of God.
We state fallen angels masquerading as prophets for the apostle Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 11:12-14 of “false apostles and deceitful workers transforming themselves to be apostles of Christ” Therefore, 1Kings and 2 Corinthians both reveal a principle account that involves false gods against the mighty acts of God. Moreover, if Satan can keep sending out his satanic forces that are masquerading angels and keep Christians ignorant of the New Covenant and the ultimate power of truth of God then the Body of Christ will fall into great tribulation Revelation 2:22. Then one might interpret that they have rejected any part of God’s authority and are acting upon their own authority. Furthermore, the logic for addressing the fact of fallen angels masquerading as apostles, prophets of light is for Satan does the same 2 Corinthians 11:14 masquerading as an angel of light.
When we read from the epistles of John, we find that John clearly states about many who have the spirit of antichrist and Paul refers to the wicked one 2 Thessalonians 2:3-10. Moreover, in order to understand fully this spiritual warfare or battle over the New Covenant, in addition, against the New Covenant, therefore, you need to understand why Satan wants to pervert God’s New Covenant. It is only by the New Covenant today in people’s lives that is preventing Satan to overtake them. There can only be one interpretation that the New Covenant is the Spirit of God indwelling in us or empowering us with God’s grace. This indwelling of God’s Spirit took place on the Day of Pentecost Acts 2.
The First Provision is Unconditional
It is clear about God using the term “I will” for God states this phrase throughout the pages of the Old Testament. Looking at “I will” in the Holy Scriptures is that which links the covenants starting with the covenant of Abraham Genesis 15-17, the Mosaic covenant Exodus 34:6-7, with the Davidic covenant 2 Samuel 7:8-17, and with the New Covenant Jeremiah 31:31-34 showing God’s steadfast loving kindness in His relationship in these covenants.
God’s New Covenant is Everlasting
While each of these covenants are everlasting and each of them are made with different people in the Holy Scriptures and each covenant was made at different times; however, they all hold one thing in common and that they all are everlasting covenant and in how the scriptures describes each of these covenants. From the salt covenant God has used in each covenant in regards to things that pertain to life and relationship to Him. One might also interpret that God has ordained each of these covenants in His Holy Name and established them a covenant forever.
God’s New Covenant is Israel Regeneration and Restoration
In Jeremiah 31:31-34 God states that God will put in Israel inward parts His law which could be interpreted as regeneration. In addition, one might also relate it in this manner that Israel might be saved, Romans 11:2627.
God’s New Covenant shows that Israel will Receive God’s Blessing
This New Covenant recorded in Jeremiah 31 strongly makes clear that Israel will receive God’s blessing with the power of God’s grace and provision in this New Covenant. In addition, all Israel will know because God said that He would write this blessing in their minds or inward parts. Ever blessing which comes from God is to be understood that it is God’s promise.
God’s New Covenant Israel Receive Forgiveness for Their sin
There is no doubt when we look at the deepest insight of the New Covenant that our God was looking at the need for His chosen people and for them to receive forgiveness because of their disobedience for not fulfilling their part of the covenant. However, in the fullness of God’s love Israel, the church, and to help the modern-day church that is living in the last days, and therefore, is God’s provision of forgiveness. Therefore, for Israel, the church, and these last days we must allow this provision of the New Covenant to work that was prophesies by the prophets of old and was instituted by our Lord. In addition, Jeremiah 31:34 has predicted that God will forgive and remember their sin no more to me this is redemption, renewing, reconciliation that will take place in the New Covenant not only for Israel also for all of God’s creation.
God’s New Covenant is Israel will Receive the Indwelling of God’s Spirit
When studying this covenant regarding Israel and Judah we must keep in mind how it is stated in the Holy Scriptures one of the main context we have to consider with Israel receiving the indwelling of God’s Spirit is “after those days” and once Israel recognizes their the indwelling of God’s Spirit will come. Consider these reference (Hebrews 8-10; Romans 11; Ezekiel 36:25-27; Jeremiah 31:33)
God’s New Covenant, God’s Spirit will teach God’s that will be Made Known
In Jeremiah 31:34 God makes it clear that no more will man teach his brother about knowing who God is from the least to the greatest. I do not know about anyone else understanding of what this text says to them but to my personal understanding is God is saying in this prophetic word that His Spirit will be doing the teaching by telling you all things, John 16:13. In addition, the apostle John writes in his epistles about the anointing that we have received from God, 1 John 2:27. Another way of addressing that the Spirit of God will teach Israel, and the church, that are living in these last days. Which is part of the ministry of the Spirit of God illuminating the power of the Holy Scriptures to the Body of Christ that is living in these last days. In addition, this is the fulfillment of the Old Testament prophetic word unto Israel, the church, and these last days, Acts 2:16-17.
God’s New Covenant Provisions will be Made By the Blood of the Lamb
In this provision to gain understanding we must go to the book of Zechariah chapter 9 verse 11 where it states the blood of the covenant that will set the prisoners free. Furthermore, we must also take into consideration the words of the prophet Isaiah that Israel will be a light unto the Gentiles Isaiah 42:6-7. It is out of these texts of scriptures that made me come to realize that for God’s chosen people and the Gentiles to have His provision that it comes from the blood of the Lamb on the cross would be our salvation in His New Covenant.
From the blood on the door post on the night of the first Passover where God established the elements of Passover, God made these provisions in that first Passover that I strongly believe as the covenant of provision, the second element is the condition to be done in that covenant, and the third element is the promise stated to Israel in this covenant and in these three we can see the negative elements and the positive elements and its perpetual elements of God’s covenant of Passover as the New Covenant Passover. Why, I have stated perpetual elements in distinguishing what circumstances a covenant and its character it represents leading up to the New Covenant that we do in remembrance of our Lord.
While there may be many passages of scriptures in the Old Testament that may be describing the terms of the New Covenant it appears only Jeremiah 31:31 states the words New Covenant. I believe that it is not much the name of the covenant as it is the description of the covenant and that it is new. Moreover, it is new in relationship to the Mosaic covenant and the radical change it will bring about to Israel, and the church, and these last days I state it in this manner because this New Covenant deal with all of the modern-day church and with mankind. One might even add that this is not only the answer to the old covenant, it also attains the ability for a new standard and relationship in God’s covenants in a totally new relationship to God and His creation.
Let us examine maybe a new perspective of understanding, instead of God changing His relationship with Israel and choosing another nation to take her place because of her unfaithfulness God choose to make a New Covenant to maintain His relationship. Before, I state further it is well for me to state that God will not change His relationship with Israel because of the covenants He established with them. Therefore, I have truly base this understanding upon the facts of what is stated with each of the everlasting covenants that God established and how God maintaining those covenants in His relationship with Israel and the rest of His creation. Moreover, it is well to state that without a change of heart in mankind, man will always tend to follow the way of disobedience and sin, rather than be faithful to God Ezekiel 36:27.
It has been traditionally taught over and over that the meaning of the New Covenant is grace and grace alone or that it is the covenant of grace. And again, I, will agree that grace is in the New Covenant, however, I strongly believe that there is more in the New Covenant than grace, furthermore, I cannot find anywhere in the Holy Scriptures where that states the covenant of grace. Yes, I can find many texts of scriptures on the subject regarding grace and I can find many key elements about grace for just to name a couple one is atonement, two is salvation and there are many, many more terms within the Holy Scriptures stating the grace of God.
Then going back to the first key element for building this basic foundation for the New Covenant and why that we the Body of Christ should fully understand, is that God’s New Covenant is about transforming lives which began with Israel, then the church, and following the prophetic word of prophecy for these last days. Then second key element is that it all began with Israel which reflects the old covenant into the New Covenant which is God’s plan of redemption through a superior covenant or an Ultimate Covenant with Israel, then the church, and those who are living in these last days. The third key element that the New Covenant is the emphasizes on the law of the heart which could be interpreted or emphasizes as the spiritual worship in the Body of Christ as well as the inner-being of mankind.
Therefore, the church building is not the issue in regards to the New Covenant it is about the body of a Christian individual within the Body of Christ. For Paul stated to the church at Corinth “What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?” (1 Corinthians 6:19 KJV) In addition, again then the church building is not the issue regarding worship or in one place to worship if we are the temple of the Holy Ghost.
These are just a few of the key elements of understanding the New Covenant and why it was written by the prophets of the Holy Scriptures. Then we must also consider as the modern-day church regarding just one of the questions you might hear in the Body of Christ today. Why do we need to understand all of this Jewish stuff? Well this seems to be a simple question, however, is it just a simple question? I have only one response to that question which is my own personal understanding and that is the Holy Scriptures is where it began with all that Jewish stuff. Therefore, if the people of the Body of Christ are going to understand the New Covenant, then they are going to have to study all of this Jewish stuff recorded in the Holy Scriptures. Let us start looking at just where, why, and how the New Covenant was given in the Old Testament as well as the New Testament.
First of all, let me point out that there are several covenants that are recorded in the Holy Scriptures, however, there are eight major covenants in the scriptures that most students of the Bible study. The Spirit of God point out this very important fact about why and how the New Covenant goes back to the covenant with Abraham Genesis 15 where God tells Abram that “out of his own body” shall be his heirs Genesis 15:4. In Genesis 17 this covenant is cut and made and everlasting covenant with an everlasting possession Abraham seed. In addition, when we consider this covenant and that it is everlasting with Abraham and his seed and their generations and those that are born needs to be part of that covenant relationship. The phrase “the everlasting covenant” is recorded 16 times in the Old Testament and once in the New Testament.
All of these eight major covenants contain a variety of promises; and therefore, making them key elements of why we need a New Covenant. Moreover, throughout the pages of the Holy Scriptures portray the facts of an eternal covenant among Israel, the church, and these last days. It is in these concepts of Israel, the church, and the last days that God denotes Himself within the Holy Scriptures in the New Covenant and its works portrayed in the scriptures which denotes grace, redemption, salvation, and atonement that is the interaction of the New Covenant.
When we consider the phrase “Old Covenant” is meant as the covenant made at Mount Sinai with God’s chosen people. It was at this time that the writing of “the book of the covenant” and the body of laws of God was written. Here is where that God first began to impose the covenant relation between Him and Israel. However, it is well to note that in giving a basic understanding of the standards, and principles, of all of these covenants and how that they pertain to the body of Christ today and how they fit together for Israel, the church, and these last days for there are many.
The New Covenant was not fully inaugurated until two events took place, the first was the night of Passover, and the second was on the Day of Pentecost when the Spirit of God fell upon all flesh Joel 2:28 and Acts 2:16-17. Another key understanding about the New Covenant and the teachings of our Lord regarding His Father’s Commandments and laws that the New Covenant was not yet inaugurated for our Lord had not yet reached the fulfillment of His Divine purpose. In the modern-day church you hear much about the “Old Covenant” being abolished with the coming of Christ. In addition, you will hear statements like this there is no way that anyone individual could keep the law of the Old Covenant and I agree. However, have they truly considered how the New Covenant is stated to this reality that they might be living up to the standards of the New Covenant of which the apostles write about in the New Testament? The most important thing or key factor that the apostles wrote about repeatly was our unrighteousness and disobedience to the Word of God and His Commandments and laws. In what I have just stated it is for this purpose to reveal that the Body of Christ is dealing with the New Covenant Christians; and therefore, they must understand the New Covenant and why the Lord Jesus Christ said it was expedient for Him to go unto the Father.
Throughout the Old Testament prophets, there is much stated in the covenants relating to the future of Israel as well as the Gentiles coming to the light, Isaiah 49:6. “Indeed He says, It is too small a thing that you should be My servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, And to restore and preserved ones of Israel; I will also give as a light to the Gentiles, that you should be My salvation to the ends of the earth.”(NKJV) In this text of scripture it is my understanding that God is saying is that Israel will be a model in God’s covenants that will represent the responsibility to serve God and be obedient unto God. In addition, according to all that I read in the Holy Scriptures from the prophets of old like; Isaiah, Amos, and Hosea prophecies about disobedience unto God. What one might interpret that it meant that they were to have responsibility to God and to be His model.
Whenever you read in the Old Testament about the last days you will find this phrase “in the latter days” it is usually referring to Israel and Israel being restored after the exile. It is not until the book of Jeremiah where the prophetic word of God states that God is going to make a New Covenant and its purpose and its provision for the House of Israel and the House of Judah.
